DAY NINE - HISTORY LESSON

and today marked my FIRST and MOST attentive history lesson in China
Some stuffs i learnt :



The Great Wall

built in the 5th century BC
stretches over 6400 km
estimated about 2-3 million people died in the midst of building
purpose : to defend the Middle Kingdom from the Mongolian soldiers




The Grand Canal


the longest artificial man-made river in the world
total length of approxiately 1795km
starts north in Beijing and ends south in Hangzhou
about half of 6 million men recruited died while at work
purpose : unify and improve China's growing economy

ZHOU DYNASTY

Laozi was a famous thinker and educator of ancient china
his name was translated to CONFUCIUS
by Jesuit Matteo Ricci

Sun Tzu - he wrote the book of "The Art of War"
an influential ancient chinese book on military strategy
commonly used by people in the business industry




HAN DYNASTY

Emperor Wu Di
chosen as prince at 7 years of age
enthroned at age 16
made Han Dynasty the most powerul regime


TANG DYNASTY


Emperor Wu Zetian
only woman in the history of China to be made Emperor
killed her own daughter in order to get desired position
buried with tombstone w/o any inscription
made many great political achievements
